Om
The syllable "om" is first described as all-encompassing mystical entity in the Upanishads. Today, in all Hindu art and all over India and Nepal, 'om' can be seen virtually everywhere, a common sign for Hinduism and its philosophy and theology. Hindus believe that as creation began, the divine, all-encompassing consciousness took the form of the first and original vibration manifesting as sound "OM".

Essence of Meditation ~ Laurence Freeman
Meditation is a universal spiritual wisdom and a practice that we find at the core of all the great religious traditions, leading from the mind to the heart. It is a way of simplicity, silence and stillness. It can be practised by anyone from wherever you are on your life’s journey. It is only necessary to be clear about the practice and then to begin – and keep on beginning.

In Total Silence The Mind Comes Upon The Eternal ~ Krishnamurti
At this 7th Public Talk, Saanen, Switzerland, 22nd July, 1979 Krishnamurti talked about these questions:
Why is there constant strife and seeking?
Are we seeking superficial sensory experience or something timeless that thought has not touched at all?
Can thought with its limitation enquire deeply? Is observation the instrument of thought?
When one observes does the thing being observed undergo change?
Can the mind having understood desire know its value is relative and be free to observe?
Is there a way of living without any control? Is not the controller the movement of thought?
When there is no conflict whatsoever what takes place in the mind?www.youtube.com

Inspirational Me Guided Meditation ~ Oprah and Deepak
Think about the people and experiences that truly inspire you. What is it about them that makes you feel this way? For many of us, we are inspired when we feel something we have never felt before. We feel uplifted when we gain a new insight that changes our perspective completely and when we learn something new that forever transforms us.

CENTERING THOUGHT - I embrace the teacher within.

Each of us has that power to inspire another. Within all of us lies a wonderful teacher, a soul that greatly inspires others to seek the highest good and to engage fully in life, merely by expressing your authentic self. Embrace that inner teacher and know that you have something very valuable to offer everyone around you. Share your lessons freely and receive wisdom from others with openness, joy, and love.

Compassionate Love ~ Buddhist and Christian Prayers
This is the ninth track from the album 'Beyond - Connecting Hearts Buddhist and Christian Prayers with Tina Turner'. As the title indicates, the tracks feature both Buddhist sentiments and Christian ones.

The Beginning of Meditation ~ Krishnamurti
What is meditation? This is a very complex problem and we have to go very slowly and hesitantly but subtly into this question. As we said during the last week, we are investigating, we are enquiring into it so that you are not listening to the speaker, you are asking the question to yourself and finding the right answer without accepting any kind of authority, specially the authority of the speaker sitting on this unfortunate platform. It doesn't give him any authority because he sits on a platform and talks. There is no authority in so-called spiritual matters if I can use that word 'spiritual', in the matter of the spirit, in the matter of enquiring into something that demands very, very, very careful examination. So we are doing this together, not meditating together but enquiring what is meditation and from that discover for oneself as we go along the whole movement of meditation. Is this all right?

Global Oneness Day
Since the late 1960′s, when pioneering astronauts captured the first photographs of Earth from space, there has been a growing realization that everything and everyone on our beautiful blue planet are deeply connected. A realization that we are One.

Global Oneness Day was created to recognize and celebrate the fundamental interconnection of all people and all of life. It is an opportunity to join thousands of participants in the exploration not only of the idea of Oneness, but ways in which this thinking can and is being applied “on the ground” so that our global society and culture increasingly reflect it. www.globaloneness2013.org

Chakra Map ~ Osho
A short talk on the Indian Yoga Chakra Map and the Chinese Taoist Energy Map. "According to the Taoist mapping of inner consciousness there are seven holes. That is exactly the same as seven chakras. Each Taoist hole is concerned with one chakra of yoga. There are seven chakras: MULADHAR, SVADHISTHAN, MANIPURA, ANAHAT, VISHUDDHI, AJNA, SAHASRAR. These seven chakras of yoga are concerned with each hole in the heart. When you pass through one chakra then one hole opens in the heart; when you pass through the second chakra, the second hole opens in the heart; when you pass through the third chakra, the third hole opens in the heart. In yoga they have not talked about those seven holes because that will make it very confusing and complex. There is no need. One map is enough." This excerpt is from Chapter 9 of "Tao The Pathless Path" Volume 2 by Osho. www.oshoworld.com

Silence ~ directly experience one’s own centre of stillness, silence and relaxed awareness.

Osho Discourses ~ "Silence Shared in Words"
For years Osho has spoken to a worldwide audience on timeless issues such as meditation, freedom, love, happiness, and enlightenment. Osho states that one of his main reasons for his talks is to give people an experience of meditation and silence. These recorded audio talks are an amazing historical opportunity when the exact words of an Enlightened Master have been recorded without interpretation or manipulation (unlike Krishna, Buddha or Jesus etc). It is not just an opportunity to gain knowledge but above all to directly experience one’s own centre of stillness, silence and relaxed awareness. Osho’s 650 books express his views on all facets of human existence.
Audio and E-book Discourses available here www.oshoworld.com

The Fish in the Sea is Not Thirsty ~ Kabir
Osho says "Kabir's words are unique. It is difficult to find a mystic like Kabir in the history of the whole world, because he is raw, uneducated; whatever he says, it has no way of coming from the scriptures. He is quite unacquainted with the scriptures; he has no treasure of great value in words. The words he uses are of the marketplace, of the day-to-day use. But in those words he has poured everything, which even for the seers of the Upanishads has been difficult to pour in all their purest of word forms.” In this first of fifteen talks Osho says “One thing, the most important thing in life, is meditation. No education can be called real education. Even the word 'education' simply means to draw out that which is within you . . . When you enter into your aloneness, you start becoming aware of God, you start becoming aware of your treasures hidden within you. You start becoming aware of the kingdom of God that is within you.

Silence ~ directly experience one’s own centre of stillness, silence and relaxed awareness.

Love to Compassion ~ Osho
The energy called passion is always addressed towards someone. It is possessive, and because it is possessive it is ugly. To transform passion into compassion means that your energy for love is not addressed to anybody in particular; it is simply your fragrance, it is simply your presence, it is simply the way you are. It is not directed, not one-dimensional. It is radiation, so whoever comes close will feel your love – and it is non-possessive.

Silence ~ directly experience one’s own centre of stillness, silence and relaxed awareness.

Joyful Spirit by David Sun

Mindfulness Meditation
Ronald Alexander, PhD discusses tips on how to do it and discover more details on mindfulness practices in his book, Wise Mind, Open Mind: Finding Purpose and Meaning in Times of Crisis, Loss & Change.

Jesus, the Teacher Within
By Laurence Freeman OSB a Catholic priest and a Benedictine monk of Turvey Abbey in England, a monastery of the Olivetan Congregation. He is the Director of the World Community for Christian Meditation and of its Benedictine oblate community.

Who is Jesus? A marginal Jew? A Mediterranean Jewish peasant? A liberator and healer? The Second Person of the Blessed Trinity? For Father Freeman, the question of who Jesus is can illuminate our deepest questions of meaning and identity: "The clarity and freedom of our self-knowledge determines how clearly we can see Jesus in the Spirit."In this beautifully written and thoughtful book, Father Freeman shows how Jesus, as "the guru within," can only be seen in the light of self-knowledge and thus not with mortal eyes but with spiritual vision.

Loving-Kindness ~ Dr Thanh Huynh

Loving-kindness (Metta) meditation is a concentration practice which can be complementary to the mindfulness practice. It adds softness to the practice and helps cope with difficulties when mindfulness does not seem to work.

Metta, is a Pali (an ancient language similar to Sanskrit) term which literally means friendliness. It is unconditional love, with care, and without expectation. It has the quality of non-possessive and non-clinging (romantic love is not Loving-Kindness). It is gentle and non selective just as the rain falls on all subjects on earth nourishing all it touches regardless of who or what is good or bad.

This online course is designed to make the practice available to many people who find it impractical or impossible to attend regularly scheduled courses outside of their home. This online course would take less time than required for most people just to commute to a formal class. All one needs is twenty to forty minutes a day (less in week 1) for the formal practice and to be mindful during other routine activities.

Happiness ~ Osho

Osho says, "THIS IS THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL TRUTH Buddha brought to the world. This is his contribution:

Right this moment, in the now, unhappiness is impossible. If you have learnt this much, you can become a Buddha. Then nobody is hindering your path. Then you can forget all the Freud's. Then happiness is not only possible -- it has already happened, it is just in front of you. And you are missing it because you go on looking sideways.

Happiness is WHERE you are; wherever you are, happiness is there. It surrounds you. It is a natural phenomenon. It is just like air, just like sky. Happiness is not to be sought: it is the very stuff the universe is made of. Joy is the very stuff the universe is made of. But you have to look direct, you have to look in the immediate. If you look sideways then you miss."

This fascinating excerpt on 'Happiness' is from a live discourse by Osho - Chapter 9 (3-09 mp3) of ‘The Discipline of Transcendence’ Volume 3 available as a Free download from Osho World.

Silence

A mantra is a mystical syllable or phrase for rituals and meditation. Mantras have a deep affinity with particular deities or spiritual forces that they represent; by chanting them, one is enabled to establish a link with such forces. The sacred syllable Om is the best known of "seed-sounds". It has no semantic value but is regarded as efficacious.

Silence

Presence with All That Arises with Pema Chödrön from Sounds True
Part three of this wonderful talk: Meditation moves us in the direction of being able to simply see, simply hear, simply sense, simply think (thoughts passing through), simply feel (emotions coming and going). We train in being present with whatever arises in our experience, whether it is pain or pleasure, something agreeable or disagreeable. This is our path. We need to be mature about the fact that the terrain in which we are waking up is rough as well as smooth, churned up as well as calm, sour as well as sweet. The challenge is to be completely present with whatever comes up and see what you discover.

Spirituality and Happiness
Eckhart's profound yet simple teachings have already helped countless people throughout the world find inner peace and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of the teachings lies the transformation of consciousness, a spiritual awakening that he sees as the next step in human evolution. An essential aspect of this awakening consists in transcending our ego-based state of consciousness. This is a prerequisite not only for personal happiness but also for the ending of violence on our planet.

Meditation - Thursday 18 July

You're the Creator. You're the Sustainer. You're the Destroyer of all.
I bow to you.
You're my lover. You're my partner. You're my teacher of all . . .

Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation - Judith Day

We are led into silence with "Gateways to Silence" an intimate one-on-one session with renowned spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle. During this powerful talk you will experience the infinite magic and joy of being fully alive in the present moment.

"When you tell yourself who you are, a mental image comes into being of who you think you are—a 'me.' Much of your thought focuses on 'me and my problems' and how I’m going to solve them. I’m here to tell you the good news – that there is the possibility of freedom from that absurdly limited sense of self. In the NOW you can truly become aware of who you are, beyond name and form."

Osho - Consciousness accompanied by Donna De Lory
Buddha says the body is composed of fire, earth, water, air -- these four things are there, they are real things, and there is nothing else. Behind these four things there is just pure space inside you. That pure space is what you really are -- that zero space.

Buddha does not want to call it even a self, because the self carries again some distant reflection of the ego. So he calls it no-self, ANATTA. He does not call it ATMA, self, he calls it ANATMA, no-self. And he is right, he is absolutely right. One should not call it any name.

I have come across it. It has no name, and it has no form. It has no substance, and it has no center. It is just immense, pure, empty, full. It is pure bliss -- satchidananda. It is truth, it is consciousness, it is bliss, but it has no 'I'-sense in it. It is not confined by anything, it has no boundaries. It is pure space. To attain to that purity is what Buddha says is nirvana.

Kirtan

This week we follow up our Kirtan experience 'The Power of Chanting' led by Krishna Das with Rama Bolo

The Buddha says ego is just a concept, an idea; it does not exist in reality. When a child is born he is born without any 'I'. By and by he learns it, by and by he learns that there are other people and he is separate from them. Have you watched small children when they start speaking? They don't say, 'I am thirsty.' They say, 'Bobby is thirsty.' They don't say, 'I am thirsty.' They don't have any 'I'.

By and by they learn the 'I', because they start feeling 'thou'. Thou comes first, then comes I, as a reaction to thou. They started feeling that there are other people who are separate from Bobby, and they are called 'thou', you. Then by and by he starts learning the 'I'. ~ Osho

SO, BE THEREFORE MINDFUL: In this talk Osho says, "Buddha is the scientist of the inner world," a scientist of religion. This series of talks on Gautam Buddha’s 42 sutras gives a detailed description and map of the inner search.

Two thousand five hundred years have passed since Buddha delivered the sutras on which this series is based. Using modern idiom, Osho extracts the kernel of Buddha’s profound insight and understanding and presents his everlasting message of ‘Mindfulness’ to the contemporary reader in a manner that is lucid, straightforward and humorous.

Loving Kindness Song

~ Sylvie Essex

In honor of Dr. King's enduring work, our sixth grade students recorded "lovingkindness" (written by my co-teacher, Billy Walsh) and then helped me plan this movie. We share it with you in the hope that the words and actions of Dr. King - and all the peace-makers of the world - will remind each of us to practice lovingkindness, today and every day.

Wishing you all a meaningful Martin Luther King Day.

Stillness Speaks - Chapter 6

Stillness is your essential nature. What is stillness? The inner space or awareness in which the words on this page are being perceived and become thoughts. Without that awareness, there would be no perception, no thoughts, no world.

When you lose touch with inner stillness, you lose touch with yourself. When you lose touch with yourself, you lose yourself in the world. Your innermost sense of self, of who you are, is inseparable from stillness. This is the I Am that is deeper than name and form.

An Introduction to Breath Meditation

I have never come across a person who is not enlightened
~ Osho

In a single moment, in one stroke, you can become enlightened. It is not a gradual process, because enlightenment is not something that you have to invent. It is something that you have to discover. It is already there.

It is not something that you have to manufacture. If you have to manufacture it, of course, it will take time; but it is already there. Close your eyes and see it there. Be silent and have a taste of it. Your very nature is what I call enlightenment. Enlightenment is not something alien, outside you. It is not somewhere else in time and space. It is you, your very core.

Stellardrone - Galaxies
~ Hathors through Tom Kenyon

We view consciousness as one continuum, from the highest vibratory levels where non-duality is the reigning principal, down through the realms of light into the realms of matter. There are vibratory boundaries, for sure, but the worlds of matter are just as “sacred” as the highest realms of light and pure consciousness.

When you attain this realization you will have access to all dimensions of your being, which will increase your spiritual courage, capacity for deep insight, and creativity, as well as your healing/self-healing abilities.

Stillness Speaks
~ Eckhart Tolle

Eckhart Tolle's writings on the power of living in the moment fast became the most sought-after modern classic on spiritual
enlightenment. Now, in this new life-transforming book, we are shown how to become our true selves by embracing silence
and stillness.

When we are no longer limited by our thinking mind, suffering and pain disappears and we are able to move towards a new
understanding of our relationships, of nature, and of the profound wisdom that is to be found in stillness.

The Search for the Eternal Lover
~ Osho

We are all in search of a secret love, an eternal love - and we try to find it in someone else. Osho addresses in this video excerpt one of his fundamental pints of his message, that whatever we are looking for - consciously or unconsciously - is not outside of us but only within. "The real lover is within you". www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tZxsNQ8H_8

Loving-Kindness Meditation
~ Wai Cheong Kok

Loving-Kindness is a meditation practice, which brings about positive attitudinal changes as it systematically develops the quality of 'loving-acceptance'. It acts, as it were, as a form of self-psychotherapy, a way of healing the troubled mind to free it from its pain and confusion. Of all Buddhist meditations, loving-kindness has the immediate benefit of sweetening and changing old habituated negative patterns of mind.

Guided meditation on loving-kindness. Cultivate our innate quality of loving-kindness, the heartfelt wish for self and others to find happiness and the causes of happiness. This method makes use of a few meaningful phrases that best express our understanding of love: May you live in safety;
May you be happy; May you be healthy; May you live with ease.  www.vajrayana.com.au

Christian Mantra and Meditation
Fr. Laurence

In recent times a great recovery of the contemplative dimension of Christian faith has been happening. Central to this now is the rediscovery of a practice of meditation in the Christian tradition that comes to us from the early Christian monks the Desert Fathers and Mothers and allows us to put into practice the teaching of Jesus on prayer in a radical and simple way. Open to all ways of wisdom but drawing directly from the early Christian teaching John Main summarised the practice in this simple way:

Sit down. Sit still with your back straight. Close your eyes lightly. Then interiorly, silently begin to recite a single word – a prayer word or mantra. We recommend the ancient Christian prayer-word "Maranatha". Say it as four equal syllables. Breathe normally and give your full attention to the word as you say it, silently, gently, faithfully and above all - simply. The essence of meditation is simplicity. Stay with the same word during the whole meditation and from day to day. Don't visualise but listen to the word as you say it. Let go of all thoughts (even good thoughts), images and other words. Don’t fight your distractions but let them go by saying your word faithfully, gently and attentively and returning to it immediately that you realise you have stopped saying or it or when your attention is wandering.  www.wccm.org/content/what-meditation

Concierto de Aranjuez

Our meditation was rounded off by ‘Concierto de Aranjuez’ a composition for classical guitar and orchestra by the Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo. Rodrigo has explained that he tried to picture a dialogue of his soul with God, after his son died at birth (the first chords of the guitar simulate the little heart beating). The guitar is Rodrigo asking and the whole orchestra is God answering!

Osho on Emptiness - Returning to the Source Talks on Zen Chapter 2  - 14 min

Mind always transforms everything, into the terms of action. Action is our language. say to people: Be meditative. And what do they hear? They hear that I teach that you should meditate. There is a vast difference. When I say: Be meditative, I am not saying that you should meditate, because meditation is not an act, you cannot do it. You can be in it, you cannot do it; it is a state, not an act. I say: Be love, and what do you hear? You hear that I teach that you should love. You have changed the whole thing . . .Osho

A New Earth - Chapter 4 - 10
Eckhart Tolle and Oprah Winfrey

Millions have experienced Oprah and Eckhart's 'A New Earth' classes. They're transforming their lives and so can you. Tonight's group meditations are based on the first online class.

Eckhart Tolle is perhaps the most well-known spiritual teacher of our times. In large this is because of the 10 week 'New Earth' classes hosted by Oprah Winfrey on Oprah TV. These were based on 'The Power of Now' the number one New York Times best-seller - practical teachings for waking up to a new, enlightened mind-set.

What is inner space?

Most people, most people's mind is full of stuff, full of one thought after another, full of continuously arising thoughts, emotions. And the external life is full of things that need doing, one thing after another, one thing after another. So I observe that in many people's lives, there seems to be no space. There's only one thing after another, one thought after another, one thing to do after another, one thing to be worried about after another.

So I noticed this absence of space in human beings, and, really, that inner space or spaciousness is what we could also call the stillness. But
I use different terms because any one term limits it when we talk about stillness, yes, it is stillness, but it's much vaster than just stillness.

Spiritual Fruits
~ Fr Laurence Freeman

The contemplative dimension of faith as an experience of peace and love that is present at the heart of all faiths and in the core of the human person. Faith is the innate human capacity for relationship, commitment and transcendence. The experience of God is open to all though this experience may be described differently according to one’s belief system. The contemplative experience of meditation offers the potential of a ‘common ground’ for creating a global community of faith among people of different beliefs.

A New Earth - Chapter 1

Eckhart Tolle and Oprah Winfrey

Millions have experienced Oprah and Eckhart's 'A New Earth' classes. They're transforming their lives and so can you. Tonight's group meditations are based on the first online class.

In his insightful look into humanity's ego-based thinking, Eckhart Tolle provides practical teachings for waking up to a new, enlightened mind-set. If you're seeking a more loving self and a more loving planet, A New Earth has the tools to begin your transformation.

Is humanity ready for a transformation of consciousness, an inner flowering so radical and profound that compared to it the flowering of plants, no matter how beautiful, is only a pale reflection? Can human beings lose the density of their conditioned mind structures and become like crystals or precious stones, so to speak, transparent to the light of consciousness? Can they defy the gravitational pull of materialism and materiality and rise above identification with form that keeps the ego in place and condemns them to imprisonment within their own personality?

The possibility of such a transformation has been the central message of the great wisdom teachings of humankind. The messengers—Buddha, Jesus, and others, not all of them known—were humanity's early flowers. They were precursors, rare and precious beings. A widespread flowering was not yet possible at that time, and their message became largely misunderstood and often greatly distorted. It certainly did not transform human behavior, except in a small minority of people.

The Christian Contemplative Tradition
Dom Laurence Freeman OSB

Meditation is a universal spiritual wisdom and a practice that we find at the core of all the great religious traditions, leading from the mind to the heart. It is a way of simplicity, silence and stillness. It can be practised by anyone from wherever you are on your life’s journey. It is only necessary to be clear about the practice and then to begin – and keep on beginning. www.wccm.org

What is Meditation
Eckhart Tolle

Eckhart Tolle is emerging as one of the most original and inspiring spiritual teachers of our time. He travels and teaches throughout the world. Eckhart is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition, but excludes none. His profound yet simple and practical teachings have helped thousands of people find inner peace and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of his teachings lies the transformation of individual and collective human consciousness - a global spiritual awakening. www.youtube.com

God Is Not a Solution - but a Problem
~ Osho

Buddha In this talk he postulates that if God “created” the world, that would have signified a fixed end point which occurred on the seventh day of creation. That’s it – done. Perfection would be the world’s truth, and therefore evolution would not exist! He goes on to say that we need God as a “hypothesis of how the world was created,” and yet we fit this God into our own definitions of time and space.

As for Charles Darwin, Osho thinks it would be “against God’s nature to rule out evolution,” that in fact, evolution is an extension of what God created. Darwin’s work merely shows that creation is a continuous process, imperfect in nature, and will never be finished – exactly who and what we are as human beings.  www.osho.com

Love
~ Osho

Buddha has defined compassion as love plus meditation. When your love is not just a desire for the other, when your love is not only a need, when your love is a sharing, when your love is not that of a beggar but an emperor, when your love is not asking for something in return but is ready only to give - to give for the sheer joy of giving - then add meditation to it and the pure fragrance is released. That is compassion; compassion is the highest phenomenon.  http://www.osho.com/

Thursday 11 October
In support of World Mental Health Awareness Day (UN) on Wednesday 10 October 2012

There is nothing more powerful to practice than the awareness of who you truly are. This in itself will allow you to transcend any personal experience of suffering. The state of transcendence can be found by focusing on that which is beyond all thought. It is found in the silence between your thoughts, in the pause between your breathes. You are here to discover the divine infinite soul that you are, and know yourself as an unlimited spiritual being, which will free you from any state of suffering instantly. Knowing you are an eternal, formless spirit at the core, a very peaceful, expansive state is found. You can then easily step back from your thoughts and see them for what they truly are. They are simply thoughts. The day you do this, you've taken the first giant leap into claiming total freedom and enlightenment in this lifetime.

Physicist and author Peter Russell joins Eckhart in a fascinating dialogue about the nature of consciousness. Eckhart explores the concept of faith and its links to the current state of human evolution and awareness. Together, Peter and Russell combine deep insight into spirituality, and the capacity for inner experience, with knowledge about science and making contact with the universal essence that we all share.  www.eckharttolletv.com

Isha Kriya
Sadhguru
Rooted in the timeless wisdom of the yogic sciences, Isha Kriya is a simple yet potent practice created by Sadhguru. “Isha” refers to that which is the source of creation; “kriya” literally means “internal action.” The purpose of Isha Kriya is to help an individual get in touch with the source of his existence, to create life according to his own wish and vision. Daily practice of Isha Kriya brings health, dynamism, peace and wellbeing. It is a powerful tool to cope with the hectic pace of modern life.

Vipassana
~ Osho
Gautam Buddha has chosen a meditation that can be called the essential meditation. All other meditations are different forms of witnessing, but witnessing is present in every kind of meditation as an essential part; it cannot be avoided. Buddha has deleted everything else and kept only the essential part – to witness. When you have become perfectly watchful of your body, mind and heart, then you cannot do anything more, then you have to wait. When perfection is complete on these three steps, the fourth step happens on its own accord as a reward. Suddenly your life force, your witnessing, enters into the very center of your being.  Vipassana Page

The End of Suffering
Thich Nhat Hanh
Prayer/Guided Meditation: "May the sound of this bell penetrate deep into the cosmos. Even in the darkest spots, living beings are able to hear it clearly. So that all suffering in them ceases, understanding comes to their heart. And they transcend the path of sorrow and death.

The universal dharma door is already open. The sound of the rising tide is heard clearly, The miracle happens. A beautiful child appears in the heart of the lotus flower. One single drop of this compassionate water is enough to bring back the refreshing spring to our mountains and rivers.

Listening to the bell I feel the afflictions in me begin to dissolve. My mind calm, my body relaxed, a smile is born on my lips. Following the sound of the bell, my breath brings me back to the safe island of mindfulness. In the Garden of my Heart, the Flowers of Peace bloom beautifully.  www.youtube.com

Peace - In Times of Anxiety
~ John Main OSB
This talk addresses the human predicament in a time of economic crisis. In Fr John's words: So many men and women are discovering that their spirit is stifled. Meditation is the way of making contact with our own spirit, and in that contact finding everything in our experience coming into harmony, judged and aligned on God. The stresses, the challenges, all remain, but they are powerless to defeat us. We learn in our stillness in God that in him we have all things that are necessary. www.wccm.org

They are like magic, but the time has come – the magic has to be dropped, because man is capable of becoming scientific. The day for science has come. Man has become mature . . . Osho

Practicing the Power of NOW Eckhart Tolle
Practicing the Power of Now is a carefully arranged series of excerpts from The Power of Now that directly gives us those exercises and keys. Read this book slowly, or even just open it at random, deepen your awareness by practicing the exercises, reflect on the words, reflect even on the space between the words, and – maybe over time, maybe immediately – you’ll discover something of life-changing significance. The Evolution of Consciousness ~ Barbara Marx Hubbard
We notice that crisis precede transformation. Problems are evolutionary drivers. Intensifying pressure leads either to devolution and extinction or evolution and transformation. This is one reason that 2012 might be earthshaking and shocking to some. Furthermore, we see that evolution creates radical newness. Life out of prelife, human life out of animal life. Is it possible that from our species, a new human and a new humanity are now emerging? We can see the sequence from Homo habilis, Homo erectus, Homo Neanderthal, Homo sapiens, to Homo sapiens sapiens. Why should it stop with us? Is it possible that a new species has been gestating in the womb of self-consciousness through the great avatars, mystics, and visionaries for thousands of years, and that now, due the crisis, this new human is being born in millions of us? It has been predicted as Homo progressivus (Teilhard de Chardin), Gnostic Human (Sri Aurobindo), Homo sapiens, sapiens, sapiens (Peter Russell), Homo noeticus (John White), Homo universalist (my own favourite name). It is possible that the basic shift point in this prophecy is the emergence of the “universal human,” by whatever name it is called, as a “new norm.” Perhaps we will reach critical mass for this human by 2012. www.glntv.tv/bmhtv

The method I use most in teaching is anapanasati or mindfulness with breathing. Breath awareness supports us while we investigate the entire mind-body process. Brain Research and Meditation
Scientists say that meditators may be benefiting from changes in their brains. The researchers report that those who meditated for about 30 minutes a day for eight weeks had measurable changes in gray-matter density in parts of the brain associated with memory, sense of self, empathy and stress. The findings are from an article in Psychiatry Research: Neuroimaging.

M.R.I. brain scans taken before and after the participants’ meditation regimen found increased gray matter in the hippocampus, an area important for learning and memory. The images also showed a reduction of gray matter in the amygdala, a region connected to anxiety and stress. A control group that did not practice meditation showed no such changes. ~ Laurence Freeman www.wccm.org/

The Mystic Rose
If you can blossom and release that which is hidden in you, you have fulfilled the longing of existence. You have given back to existence the fragrance that was hidden in your seed. You have come to fulfil your destiny.

The mystics have never accepted man as the ultimate product. Man is only a beginning and one should not die as a beginning. That is ugly, insulting, damaging to your dignity. Man should reach to the absolute fulfillment – not only to his own contentment, but to the contentment of the cosmos. That is the secret of the mystic rose. ~ Osho www.livingworkshop.net

This powerful and revealing prayer is a wonder-working medicine, a formula for good health, long life, and freedom from accidents. But most of all it is a powerful means for God-experience.

Swami Omkarananda says: "Mantra-repetition is the most wonderful path to God-experience. Meditation or Mantra-repetition is intensive divine concentration which transforms the whole inner being, heart, mind and soul, and even the body. Intensive Mantra-meditation makes the whole consciousness powerful and awakens higher energies, elevates, sublimates, refines and transforms the lower powers, by vibrating the whole inner being with divine Consciousness". ~  Deva Premal    www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6WhK0nG8Rk

Why Does Everybody Think Enlightenment is a Joke?

The word "enlightenment" is beautiful. We come from the source, the ultimate source of light. We are small rays of that sun, and howsoever far away we may have gone, our nature remains the same. Nobody can go against his real nature: you can forget about it, but you cannot lose it. Hence attaining it is not the right expression; it is not attained, it is only remembered. That's why Buddha called his method SAMMASATI. Enlightenment Link

Meditation Programme -
Thursday 5 July

Across the world on 3rd July 2012, millions celebrated Guru Purnima. This auspicious day is held on day of the July Full Moon every year in many cultures.

On this day spiritual seekers pay their respects and gratitude to the entire lineage of Enlightened Masters who have contributed to liberate human beings from their limited understandings of their True Self. This is also the most significant day when the Guru receives all into His compassion and wipes out one’s karmas of life-times with his unconditional grace.

This is also the only day when the Guru traditionally accepts the offerings of gratitude from a disciple in any form be it of rice, grains, flowers, money, etc. It is a symbolic offering of the ‘me and mine’ from the disciple. The ‘me and mine’ represents the ego and attributes (name, fame, material possessions, age, body, mind, qualifications, status, emotions, relationships) which constitute the mistaken identity of human beings.

Fierce Grace - Awakening in the Midst of Turmoil

There are many fierce moments in any one life span: times of turmoil, upheaval, challenge, and change. These fierce moments of grace are in many ways the most spiritually important moments of our lives, because they call to us to awaken from our old patterns of conditioned existence and embrace the insecurity of living life from a place beyond our habitual fears and conditioned responses. ~ Adyashanti

Ecstasy The Forgotten Language
Life is Dialectical. It is more Hegelian than Aristotelian because it consists of the opposites. Without the opposites existence is impossible — day and night, life and death, summer and winter.

Life is so vast it can contain contradictions, and yet life in itself is not contradictory. There is harmony in the contradictions; the contradictions are complementary.

This is one of the most fundamental things to be understood. If you miss it, you will miss the whole message of Kabir — and you will miss the whole message of religion . . .  ~ Osho talk on Kabir

Part 2 - Evolutionary Enlightenment 2012 with Craig Hamilton

We’re realizing that evolution is not just something that is happening to things. It’s not just something that happened, that there wasn’t just cosmological evolution and then biological evolution that created us, and now there is like technological and social evolution. All of those things are true.

The other way of looking at it is to say that the evolutionary process that has been going on for 13.7 billion years as far as we know, is waking up to itself. It’s becoming conscious. It’s attaining the power of free choice. Not in some mysterious, disembodied, esoteric, transcendental way, but through you and me. The you and I are evolution, this grand adventure of evolution becoming conscious of itself.

Part 7 - The Dhammapada - The Way of the Buddha, Vol. 05
Buddha's way was VIPASSANA - vipassana means witnessing. And he found one of the greatest devices ever: the device of watching your breath, just watching your breath. Breathing is such a simple and natural phenomenon and it is there twenty-four hours a day. You need not make any effort. If you repeat a mantra then you will have to make an effort, you will have to force yourself. If you say, "Ram, Ram, Ram," you will have to continuously strain yourself. And you are bound to forget many times. Moreover, the word 'Ram' is again something of the mind, and anything of the mind can never lead you beyond the mind.

Man is the only being on the earth who can attain to buddhahood. Elephants and lions and tigers can't become buddhas. Only man can become a buddha, only man can become a thousand-petaled lotus, only man can release the fragrance called God. Don't waste a single moment in anything else. Do the necessary things, the essential things, but pour more and more energy into watchfulness, awareness. Wake up!

And you are bound to forget many times. Moreover, the word 'Ram' is again something of the mind, and anything of the mind can never lead you beyond the mind.

Buddha discovered a totally different angle: just watch your breath - the breath coming in, the breath going out. There are four points to be watched. Sitting silently just start seeing the breath, feeling the breath. The breath going in is the first point. Then for a moment when the breath is in it stops - a very small moment it is - for a split second it stops; that is the second point to watch. Then the breath turns and goes out; this is the third point to watch. Then again when the breath is completely out, for a split second it stops; that is the fourth point to watch. Then the breath starts coming in again... this is the circle of breath. Dhammapada Text and Audio Page

Jon Kabat-Zinn is the founder of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, a programme that is used in more than 200 hospitals and medical centres around the world. Part 4 - The Dhammapada - The Way of the Buddha, Vol. 05
Buddha says:
THE WORLD IS ON FIRE!
Fortunate are those who can understand it, not only intellectually but existentially. Can't you see your life is nothing but anguish? Now there are two ways to get rid of this anguish, this fire; one is to become so involved in meaningless things that you can forget your anguish, so that the anguish cannot raise its head because you are so occupied: the whole day occupied with money, power, prestige, running after shadows, and when you come back home you are so utterly tired that you fall asleep. And then too you remain engaged in your dreams. Dreams are nothing but reflections of your day; the same game continues in your sleep. . . . Dhammapada Text and Audio Page

Christian Mantra Meditation

Meditation is a universal spiritual wisdom and a practice that we find at the core of all the great religious traditions, leading from the mind to the heart. In Christianity this tradition became marginalised and even forgotten or suspect.  But in recent times a great recovery of the contemplative dimension of  Christian faith has been happening. Central to this now is the rediscovery of a practice of meditation in the Christian tradition that comes to us from the early Christian monks the Desert Fathers and Mothers and allows us to put into practice the teaching of Jesus on prayer in a radical and simple way.

Part 3 - The Dhammapada - The Way of the Buddha, Vol. 05
The first sutra:
THE WORLD IS ON FIRE.... What does Buddha mean by fire? He means anguish. What Soren Kierkegaard means by anguish, anxiety, despair, misery, that's what Buddha means by fire. It is a symbol. Everybody is on fire because everybody is divided, split, schizophrenic. Everybody is on fire because there is great anxiety in the world; the anxiety of "whether I am going to make it this time or not." There is great anguish in every heart -- the anguish of not knowing oneself, the anguish of not knowing from where we are coming and to where we are going, and who we are and what this life is all about. What is the meaning of life? -- this is our anguish, our agony . . . Dhammapada Text and Audio Page

Part 2 - The Dhammapada - The Way of the Buddha, Vol. 05
Thousands and thousands of commentaries have been written on these beautiful sutras. But if the first step is wrong then everything goes wrong. The first wrong step all the commentaries have taken is saying that Buddha renounced the world. It is not true. The world simply fell; it ceased to have any meaning for him. Osho explains that these sutras are concerned with aspects of man’s unawareness, and that Buddha’s whole message is concerned with the raising of our consciousness. These sutras were compiled by Buddha’s disciples to contain the essence of all his teachings. This was the last turning of the Wheel of Dharma, 2,500 years ago. At the beginning of his commentaries on these sutras, Osho says he is setting the Wheel of Dharma in motion again.  Dhammapada Text and Audio Page

Osho on Love
Buddha has defined compassion as love plus meditation. When your love is not just a desire for the other, when your love is not only a need, when your love is a sharing, when your love is not that of a beggar but an emperor, when your love is not asking for something in return but is ready only to give - to give for the sheer joy of giving - then add meditation to it and the pure fragrance is released. That is compassion; compassion is the highest phenomenon.

Audio: How Can I Serve? - 17 min
In our third and final week of this Deepak Chopra Meditation Challenge, we will explore the third soul question: What is my dharma? How can I help. . . .how can I serve? Dharma is a Sanskrit word that can be translated as “purpose.” At the Chopra Center, we consider dharma a path towards the highest expression of our own nature to help, heal, and serve others.

Identifying our unique gifts and your special talents is the first step. Once we have discovered these innate aspects of our self, we can become a conduit for the universe to flow through our words, thoughts, and deeds. Imagine a waterfall of cosmic proportions that you tap into and divert your own cascading river. Dharma works the same way. You tap into the divine healing flow of the universe by using your unique gifts and special talents. Now the universe is acting through you. Nothing is more satisfying and fulfilling than doing the work of the cosmos through your own personal expression.

In today’s meditation we will begin to ask the question What is my dharma? It doesn’t matter whether we hear any answers or guidance from the universe. We will simply pay attention in the days and weeks to come, and as we continue to ask the question, answers will come to us. . . .perhaps while we’re in meditation and perhaps while we’re out in the world doing our everyday activities. Pay attention and notice when time seems to stand still, when you feel completely absorbed in what you are doing as you use your talents to serve yourself and others. This is dharma. This is love. This is the fulfillment of your deepest purpose.

Audio: Freedom - 10 min

Day 12 of the Depak Chopra Meditation Challenge led by Trista Thorp: "Today we will focus our attention on expanding our experience of freedom − the freedom that reveals itself through the simple act of asking the question “What do I want?” before we go into meditation. Through the consistent practice of meditation, we are able to connect more deeply to our personal soul. As we expand our awareness of who we are at the core of our being, some interesting realizations begin to surface. This soul connection brings clarity to what it is that we want to see unfold in our lives.

By asking ourselves the question “What do I want?” we begin our internal dialogue with the universe. We ask the question and then we detach, trusting the infinite organizing power of the universe to work out the details.
Meditation allows us the opportunity to view our current life circumstances – created by our actions, imprinted as memories, and driven by our desires – and the freedom to make different choices in the present moment. Through this process of witnessing, identifying, and letting go, we create a new, upgraded version of our self that is emotionally free. The Sanskrit term for this freedom is moksha, and we will use this word as our mantra during today’s guided meditation – moksha. . . .moksha. . . .moksha. . ."

Existence is not divided into either-or, it has no duality. It is one energy flowing from this end to that. Both banks of the river are joined together underneath – they are part of one land. They appear to you to be two because you have not entered the river and you have never gone to the very bottom. The banks are not two, they belong to one land. But for the river to flow, they appear to be as two.

Existence is just like two banks meeting underneath, and mind is just looking at the surface. So mind says: I am at this bank, and you are at that. You are against me. If you are a friend, then you are on this bank with me; you are an enemy if you are on that bank. But both the wings belong to one earth. The mind cannot see so deeply. The mind is the phenomenon on the surface – hence dualities. Existence is one, it cannot be otherwise. There are not two existences, only one exists. But because of the rhythm you are alive – you inhale and exhale. That inhalation and exhalation becomes like two banks for your river to flow, but you are neither.. . . Osho  http://www.oshorajneesh.com/download/osho-books/zen/Returning_to_the_Source.pdf

Audio: Osho on Emptiness - Returning to the Source Talks on Zen Chapter 2  - 14 min

You have changed the whole thing . . . Osho  http://www.oshorajneesh.com/download/osho-books/zen/Returning_to_the_Source.pdf
