Mindfulness Meditation - Thursday 18 December 2014

Om ~ Ragani
OM is the symbol of the universal heartbeat; it is not a word. And as you come closer and closer to the universal heartbeat, the by-product is a deepening silence. Shantih means silence and it is always repeated three times because by the time you reach to the fourth, you are no more – just the silence has remained. You have disappeared as an entity separate from the universe.  www.cdbaby.com/cd/ragani3

Guided Mindfulness Meditation ~ Stephan Bodian
Excerpt from Stephen's New Book Beyond Mindfulness "In the context in which I learned and practiced it, mindfulness was always a stepping-stone, not an end in itself, a skillful method for going beyond mindfulness to recognize the foundation out of which mindfulness arises. According to this tradition, the act of being mindful is a portal to a deeper, enduring awareness that can't be manufactured or practiced. This deeper awareness is always functioning, whether we know it or not. Indeed, it is our natural state of spontaneous presence, without which there would be no experience at all. Instead of cultivating it like a talent or strengthening it like a muscle, we just need to recognize and return to it." Read more . . . http://stephanbodian.org/beware-the-witness-trap-excerpt-from-beyond-mindfulness/

Mindfulness meditation practice
The Mindfulness meditation practice couldn't be simpler: pay attention to the breath, and when your attention wanders, return. By following these simple steps, you can get to know yourself up close and personal. The essential meditation is Silence. We are made of sound and silence.Sound is our mind; silence is our being. Sound is our trouble; silence is our liberation. All other meditations are different forms of witnessing, but witnessing is present in every kind of meditation as an essential part. The Ten Bulls of Zen - Sutra 7: The Bull Transcended ~ Osho
Once you have become master of your mind, the mind is transcended. The moment you have become master of your mind, the mind is no longer there. It remains only if you are a slave. Once you have taken hold of the bull and you are riding on it, the bull disappears. The bull exists as separate from you only if you are not the master. This has to be understood.  Osho ~ The Ten Bulls of Zen - Download Links

What is Here Now? ~ Osho
THOUGHT IS THE CAPACITY OF NOT BEING HERE – so thought cannot exist in the here now, it cannot be part of it. That is impossible. Thought can only be either of the past or of the future. Thought can never be of the present. In the VERY process of thinking, that is implied; it is intrinsic to it.The moment you think, either you think of the past or you think of the future. It may be the immediate past, but it is still past – it is never the present, it cannot be the present. Walk Without Feet, Fly Without Wings and Think Without Mind: Chapter 3 ~ Osho   PDF and AUDIO_MP3

The Ten Bulls of Zen - Sutra 6: Riding The Bull Homel ~ Osho
The sixth sutra
RIDING THE BULL HOME
If you are not the master, then you go away, far away from home. If you are the master, you start coming back towards the original source. If you are not the master, then the energy moves away from you – towards things, persons, power, prestige, fame. The energy goes on moving away and away from you, towards the periphery. Once you are the master, the energy starts moving homeward.  Osho ~ The Ten Bulls of Zen - Download Links

The Ten Bulls of Zen - Sutra 5: Taming the Bull ~ Osho
The fifth sutra:
THE WHIP AND ROPE ARE NECESSARY,
ELSE HE MIGHT STRAY OFF DOWN SOME DUSTY ROAD.
BEING WELL TRAINED HE BECOMES NATURALLY GENTLE.
THEN, UNFETTERED, HE OBEYS HIS MASTER.

Listen to every word as carefully as possible: THE WHIP AND ROPE ARE NECESSARY.... The whip is a symbol for awareness, and the rope is a symbol for inner discipline. Awareness and discipline are the most fundamental things for a seeker. If you discipline yourself without awareness, you will become a hypocrite. If you discipline yourself without awareness, you will become a zombie, a robot. You may not do harm to anybody, you may be known as a good man or even as a saint, but you will not be able to live your real life, you will not be able to celebrate it. There will be no delight in it. You will become too serious; the playfulness will be gone forever. And seriousness is a disease.  Osho ~ The Ten Bulls of Zen - Download Links

The fourth sutra: Catching the Bull.
I SEIZE HIM WITH A TERRIFIC STRUGGLE.
Struggle is going to be there, because the mind is not going to lose its power easily. The mind has been a dictator for so long; now you want the dictator to come down from the throne – it is impossible. The mind has become accustomed to bossing you and bullying you. The Ten Bulls of Zen - Poem 3 & 4: Perceiving the Bull & Catching the Bull ~ Osho
The third sutra is about sensitivity.
I HEAR THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE.
THE SUN IS WARM, THE WIND IS MILD, WILLOWS ARE GREEN ALONG THE SHORE.
When you become sensitive, sensitive to all that is happening around you – THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE – when you become sensitive to everything that is happening to you, and surrounding you, then THE SUN IS WARM, THE WIND IS MILD, WILLOWS ARE GREEN ALONG THE SHORE. The religious search is different from a scientific search. In a scientific search, inquiry, you have to be concentrated, so much so that you forget the whole world. There have been cases: a scientist was working in his lab and the house caught fire, but he was not aware of it. He had to be dragged out of the house. He was so concentrated... so narrow becomes the consciousness that everything else is excluded, bracketed off: only one object, like a target. Osho ~ The Ten Bulls of Zen - Download Links

In 1975 John Main opened the first Christian Meditation Centre at Ealing Abbey in London. Realising that this way of the prayer of the heart could guide the search of many modern people for deeper spiritual experience, he recommended two regular daily periods of meditation to be integrated with the usual practices of Christian life. In his teaching he emphasised the simplicity and universality of the practice of meditation as well as acknowledging the fact of its being a discipline. www.wccm.org/content/john-main

The Ten Bulls of Zen - Poem 2: Discovering the foot prints ~ Osho
Understanding the teaching.... Buddhas, millions of buddhas, have been on this earth. They have all taught the same thing. They cannot do otherwise. The truth is one, descriptions many. The truth is one – they have all talked about it. Now, if you try to understand you will be able to discern the footprints of the bull. But rather than understanding, you try to follow – and there you miss. The river of life is flowing towards the ocean. If you trust, you flow in the river. You are already in the river, but you are clinging to some dead roots on the bank, or you are trying to fight against the current. Clinging to scriptures, clinging to dogmas, doctrines, is not allowing the river to take you with her. Drop all doctrines, all dogmas, all scriptures. Life is the only scripture, the only bible. Trust it and allow it to take you to the ocean, to the ultimate. Osho ~ The Ten Bulls of Zen - Download Links

The Science of Happiness

The Science of Happiness Course Week 9: New frontiers of this science

For the past eight weeks, this course has shed light on what researchers know about the sources of happiness. But there is still so much that the science of happiness has yet to discover--it is very much an emerging science, as Dacher and Emiliana have suggested at various points throughout the course.

This last week covers some of the new frontiers of this science. It touches on several topics related to happiness that have been largely neglected by researchers but that are just recently starting to earn more rigorous scientific scrutiny. This week's material should leave you with plenty of new and big questions to ponder well after "The Science of Happiness" draws to a close.

The Ten Bulls of Zen - Poem 1: The Search for the Bull ~ Osho
The bull is a symbol of energy, vitality, dynamism. The bull means the very life itself. The bull means your inner power, your potentiality. The bull is a symbol, remember that. You are there, you have life also – but you don’t know what life is. You have the energy, but you don’t know where this energy comes from and to what goal this energy is going. You are that energy, but still you are not aware of what that energy is. You live unaware. You have not asked the basic question: Who am I? That question is the same as the search for the bull: Who am I? And unless this is known, how can you go on living? Then the whole thing is going to be futile, because the basic question has not been asked, has not been answered. Unless you know yourself, whatsoever you do is going to be futile. The most basic thing is to know oneself. But it happens that we go on missing the most basic, and we go on worrying about trivia. Osho ~ The Ten Bulls of Zen - Download Links

The Ten Bulls of Zen - Perceiving the Bull ~ Osho
We enter on a rare pilgrimage. The Ten Bulls of Zen are something unique in the history of human consciousness. Truth has been expressed in many ways, and it has always been found that it remains unexpressed whatsoever you do. Howsoever you express it, it eludes, it is elusive. It simply escapes description. The words that you use for it cannot contain it. And the moment you have expressed, immediately you feel frustrated as if the essential has been left behind and only the nonessential has been expressed. The Ten Bulls of Zen have tried in a single effort to express the inexpressible. So first, something about the history of these ten bulls. Osho ~ The Ten Bulls of Zen - Download Links

Perceiving the Bull ~ Osho
The ten paintings that tell the famous Zen story of a farmer in search of his lost bull provide an allegorical expression of the search for enlightenment. Originally Taoist, The Ten Bulls were repainted by the 12th-century Chinese Zen master, Kakuan, and first appeared in the West in American author, Paul Reps'book, Zen Flesh, Zen Bones. These discourses are Osho's commentaries on the paintings, and on the poetry and prose which accompany them in Paul Reps'book. In answering the question, "Why am I here?" Osho dismantles not only this but probably every "why" the mind can contrive. There is a beautiful talk about the relation between discipline and awareness; another about Tantra and Yoga, the path of love and the path of meditation and where they meet. The Search: Chapter 3 - Perceiving the Bull (MP3)The Search (Download PDF)

The Mindful Way through Depression ~ Mark Willliams
If you've ever struggled with depression, take heart. Mindfulness, a simple yet powerful way of paying attention to your most difficult emotions and life experiences, can help you break the cycle of chronic unhappiness once and for all. In The Mindful Way through Depression, four uniquely qualified experts explain why our usual attempts to think our way out of a bad mood or just snap out of it lead us deeper into the downward spiral. Through insightful lessons drawn from both Eastern meditative traditions and cognitive therapy, they demonstrate how to sidestep the mental habits that lead to despair, including rumination and self-blame, so you can face life s challenges with greater resilience.  www.youtube.com/watch

The Science of Happiness

The Science of Happiness Course: Week 6 -  Mindfulness

After the Mindfulness Practice some of us stayed for a short Study Group session. This helps us to understand what and why we are studying, share ideas and hash out problems that would be too difficult for an individual to solve alone.  Colleagues might also have paid more attention to the parts others missed. So we all help to fill in each other’s gaps as the best way to really learn and understand something is through explaining it to others!  The study group is beneficial intellectually but also emotionally, as we encourage each other to study.

The Science of Happiness

The Science of Happiness Course: Week 5 -  Midterm Exam

After the Mindfulness Practice some of us stayed for a short Study Group session. This helps us to understand what and why we are studying, share ideas and hash out problems that would be too difficult for an individual to solve alone.  Colleagues might also have paid more attention to the parts others missed. So we all help to fill in each other’s gaps as the best way to really learn and understand something is through explaining it to others!  The study group is beneficial intellectually but also emotionally, as we encourage each other to study.

Mindfulness Meditation - Thursday 9 October

(Thanks to everybody for the £21.05 donation for The Mental Health Foundation - World Mental Health Day 2014 appeal)

Schizophrenia affects around 26 million people across the world and is the focus of World Mental Health Day this year.
Om ~ Ragani on Ancient Spirit
OM is the symbol of the universal heartbeat; it is not a word. And as you come closer and closer to the universal heartbeat, the by-product is a deepening silence. Shantih means silence and it is always repeated three times because by the time you reach to the fourth, you are no more – just the silence has remained. You have disappeared as an entity separate from the universe.  www.cdbaby.com/cd/ragani3

World Mental Health Day ~ WHO
On 10 October 2014 we celebrate the most important day in the mental health calendar and shine the spotlight on "living" with schizophrenia. From those who face every day of their lives with it, to their families, friends, doctors and even society as a whole, we all have a part to play in raising awareness of schizophrenic illness. www.mentalhealth.org.uk

Loving Kindness Meditation ~ Emma Seppala, Ph.D
I'd like to invite you to try loving-kindness meditation! After reading our findings, a number of people over the years have asked me to share the version of the loving-kindness meditation we researched. Research by Barbara Fredrickson suggests that practising this type of meditation daily can lead to substantial boosts in your happiness and well-being! I have therefore recorded it here so you can listen to it at home. It's short (roughly 10 minutes) so it can be done anywhere, anytime. Would love to know how it impacts your days and your weeks! www.youtube.com

Silence
The essential meditation is Silence. We are made of sound and silence.Sound is our mind; silence is our being. Sound is our trouble; silence is our liberation. All other meditations are different forms of witnessing, but witnessing is present in every kind of meditation as an essential part. Take It Easy: Talks on Zen Buddhism ~ Osho
Just to be interested in what Buddha has said is a great adventure, because nobody before or after has been such a radical revolutionary. First: there is no goal, so nobody can go astray – let it penetrate your heart, let it pierce you like an arrow. There is no goal in life! so there is no way to miss it. All other religions depend on that; all other religions go on telling people ”You are missing.” That is the meaning of the word ’sin’ – to miss, to miss the target. The original Hebrew root means to miss the target; not being able to reach the goal – that is sin. Buddha strikes at the very root: he says there is no goal. Just this simple statement can become a liberating force: there is no goal. Then one is not going anywhere. One is always here; one is never going anywhere. There is nowhere to go, and there is NOBODY to go. All has always been here, and all has always been available. Take It Easy, Vol 1, Chapter 3

Through insightful lessons drawn from both Eastern meditative traditions and cognitive therapy, they demonstrate how to sidestep the mental habits that lead to despair, including rumination and self-blame, so you can face life s challenges with greater resilience.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=raBlERzb_S4

Hack Your Brain's Default Mode with Meditation ~ Dan Harris
An ABC News correspondent, Dan Harris, was turned on to mediation after a live, on-air panic attack. Harris explains the neuroscience behind meditation and predicts that the exercise will soon become regularly scheduled maintenance, as commonplace as brushing your teeth or eating your veggies. We all have a voice in our head. It’s what has us losing our temper unnecessarily, checking our email compulsively, eating when we’re not hungry, and fixating on the past and the future at the expense of the present. Most of us would assume we’re stuck with this voice – that there’s nothing we can do to rein it in – but Harris stumbled upon an effective way to do just that. www.youtube.com/watch

Guided Mindfulness Meditation: The Mirror of Mindfulness ~ Sam Harris
My hope is that my book Waking Up will help readers see the nature of their own minds in a new light. A rational approach to spirituality seems to be what is missing from secularism and from the lives of most of the people I meet. There is no discrete self or ego living like a minotaur in the labyrinth of the brain. And the feeling that there is—the sense of being perched somewhere behind your eyes, looking out at a world that is separate from yourself—can be altered or entirely extinguished. Although such experiences of “self-transcendence” are generally thought about in religious terms, there is nothing, in principle, irrational about them. From both a scientific and a philosophical point of view, they represent a clearer understanding of the way things are. www.samharris.org/waking-up

Take It Easy: Talks on Zen Buddhism ~ Osho
That’s why Zen people say: Look into the original mind. ’Original mind’ means when there was no impact of anything on the mind; before conditioning started, before you were told who you are; before you were taught, before you learnt; before your mind started collecting contents. Just go deep down into that first moment where there was no content but only the container, just the mirror reflecting nothing – that is real. The witness is real. When Buddha attained enlightenment, somebody asked him, ”What have you gained?” He laughed. He said, ”I have not gained, I have lost much. I am far poorer than I used to be. I have lost all ignorance, all illusions, all dreams. Now I am just my originality.” Take It Easy, Vol 1, Chapter 3

Guided Loving Kindness (Metta) Meditation ~ Tara Brach
Metta practice, also called lovingkindness meditation, cultivates both a loving heart and a collected, settled mind.  The practice uses specific phrases to send loving and kind wishes to yourself, loved ones, neutral persons, difficult people and to all beings everywhere, without exception. You might choose three or four of the below, or create whatever phrases resonate for you:

May I be filled with loving kindness
May I feel safe from harm.
May I accept myself just as I am.
May I be peaceful and at ease.
May I be happy.

Spend a few minutes or more offering the phrases to yourself, taking the time to imagine and directly feel the experience the phrases invoke.  Then do the same as you offer it to the others mentioned above. You can bring in the metta practice at the beginning, end or during any part of the meditation.  For some people, it can be beneficial to emphasize metta as a primary practice—especially when there has been trauma or great self-aversion.  This skilful means is a beautiful way to awaken the heart.

Christian Meditation - Leaving the Ego Behind ~ John Main OSB
What is the essence of meditation? What is it really about?  It is learning to stand back and to allow God to come into the forefront of your life.  So often in our experience, we find that we are the center of our world.  So many of us see reality revolving around us.  We think quite naturally of situations and of people primarily in terms of “how is this going to affect me?” Now that’s all right as far as it goes. But if we really imagine that we are at the center of the world, then we are never going to see any situation, or any person, or ourselves, as we really are.  Because, of course, we are not at the center of the world.  God is at the center. Now, meditation is trying to take that step away from self-centeredness to God-centeredness.  The result is that we find our own place in the world.  www.wccm.org

Samadhi Sita Ram ~ Krishna Das
Chanting (Kirtan) is a part of the path of Devotional Yoga. God or Guru is an endless ocean of love truth and presence. First we may hear the distant roar of the crashing waves of the ocean and we're drawn to that sound. As we get closer, we can smell the ocean air and taste the sweet moisture. When we reach the beach and see the ocean for the first time, we're transfixed by the vastness and Beauty. We run and we dive in and enjoy the freedom that comes from this ecstasy. Finally we merge with that ocean of love and somehow find ourselves back on the shore, returning to ourselves so that we can share the experience with others. Those that have returned have given us these Names of God. These Names are the sound of the surf of that Ocean of Love. They hold the power to help us find our way back to that ocean. We don't have to create anything; we don't have to manufacture any emotions or feelings. We can't make it happen. It already is. All we have to do is Remember. Everyone has their own path to this beach, to the Ocean, but we all wind up in the same place. There is only one...One. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ufc8FRLpXvY

This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice. meet them at the door laughing and invite them in. Be grateful for whatever comes. because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

Harvest Moon
Om ~ Ragani on Ancient Spirit
OM is the symbol of the universal heartbeat; it is not a word. And as you come closer and closer to the universal heartbeat, the by-product is a deepening silence. Shantih means silence and it is always repeated three times because by the time you reach to the fourth, you are no more – just the silence has remained. You have disappeared as an entity separate from the universe.  www.cdbaby.com/cd/ragani3

Chaired by former minister for mental health, Paul Burstow MP, the CentreForum Mental Health Commission concludes its 12 month study on the state of wellbeing in England by identifying five key priorities between now and 2020.

One of the specific Recommendations at the end of Chapter 5: Schools is: 'That the national curriculum should include the requirement to teach children and young people how to look after their mental health and build emotional resilience through approaches such as mindfulness'

Emptiness ~ Osho
Meditation is looking into your emptiness, welcoming it, enjoying it, being one with it, with no desire to fill it? There is no need, because it is already full. It looks empty because you don´t have the right way of seeing it. You see it through the mind; that is the wrong way. If you put the mind aside and look into your emptiness, it has tremendous beauty, it is divine, it is overflowing with joy. Nothing else is needed. ~ Osho .www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUkuAatstbo

Om Sri Lakshmi ~ Robin Renee on Live Devotion
The Sanskrit “lyrics” in kirtan have meanings that refer to praise of the many forms of God/dess as seen through the Hindu/Bhakti Yoga tradition. I have found depth in increasing awareness of each Name, and you may study those specifics if you wish. But regardless of the particulars of your philosophy or the words you use or don’t use to refer to the Divine, kirtan is an experience open to all. Call-and-response singing or simply listening is transformative and has the potential to move us to our inherent state of compassion, love, and Oneness.  www.cdbaby.com/cd/robinrenee3

Theologia Mystica ~ Osho
Dionysius is one of the greatest Buddhas ever. And whenever the Eastern scholar by any chance, if at all, comes across a person like Dionysius, he starts thinking that he must have borrowed from the East. That seems to be a tacit assumption: that the East has some monopoly over spiritualism. Nobody has any monopoly. East or West cannot make any difference in man’s spiritual growth. Jesus could become a Buddha in Jerusalem, Lao Tzu could become a Buddha in China, Dionysius could become a Buddha in Athens. There is no need to borrow from anybody.  http://www.oshobooks.net/theologiamystica/front-matter/theologia-mystica/

Oprah & Deepak's 21-Day Meditation Experience ~ Finding Wisdom
Oprah Winfrey – Finding Wisdom.  We all have an inner voice.  Some people call it instinct, some people call it intuition, other people call it the voice of God.  I call it all of those things, and also my emotional GPS and I rely on it too, as each and every one of us can, to guide me to my best possible answers.   When we’re quiet, when we trust in the flow of innate understanding, we tap into riches of ease and natural clarity.  All the answers are there if you’re willing to get still and listen . . .

Deepak Chopra - We devote today’s meditation to the part of ourself that brings higher knowledge, wisdom, insight and intuition.  It is truly the window to the soul.  When you awaken to the wisdom center, you open your spiritual eye and begin to understand what lies beyond your physical vision and logical intellect.  From here, the truth reveals itself in the blink of an eye.  www.soul2soulblog.com/meditation-finding-your-flow-deepak-chopra/

When I first heard about mindfulness and meditation, I was a little hesitant. Meditation sounded esoteric and I wasn't sure how I could possibly benefit from the art of mindfulness. However, after attending an evening class in mindfulness, and completing an eight week course in mindfulness, I was hooked! I had discovered an incredible way of transforming my inner state of mind and living a life of purpose, calm and focus. I began to see a whole different way of meeting life, from just thinking all the time,

Meditation ~ David Wood
David Wood is an Anglican priest. The greater part of his life lived and worked among the slowly disappearing industrial settlements in the north of England, organizing and leading workshops, retreats and prayer vigils, usually using silence and seclusion. When, after years of exhaustive research in 1988, met with the teachings of John Main, he knew that he returned "home". Together with his wife, Sheila they developed a Community for Christian Meditation in Cumbria in north-west England. http://www.wccm.org/

Desiderata ~ Osho
This poem by Max Ehrmann has inspired millions, expressing a simplicity and truthfulness that most of us yearn for. Because of these qualities Osho says, "The word ”desiderata” is beautiful: it means the essentials and that the only thing worth remembering again and again is: WHAT PEACE THERE MAY BE IN SILENCE. Give a little time, energy, to silent moments, because only in silent moments will you know what peace is. And the person who has tasted something of peace is rich, is immensely rich – all others are beggars – because he starts knowing the inner kingdom of God. Peace is the door to the inner kingdom of God. Silence helps you to know peace and peace leads you into God."  Desiderata

The Dhammapada: Sutra - Light and Darkness ~ Osho
Osho calls the incomparable Dhammapada sutras of Buddha, "the book of books." He explains that these sutras are concerned with aspects of man′s unawareness, and that Buddha′s whole message is concerned with the raising of our consciousness. These sutras were compiled by Buddha′s disciples to contain the essence of all his teachings. This was the last turning of the Wheel of Dharma, 2,500 years ago. At the beginning of his commentaries on these sutras, Osho says he is setting the Wheel of Dharma in motion again. This is from the introduction to the first chapter 'Be On Guard' in the  Audiobook Series The Dhammapada: The Way of the Buddha, Vol. 09   www.osho.com

And the person who has tasted something of peace is rich, is immensely rich – all others are beggars – because he starts knowing the inner kingdom of God. Peace is the door to the inner kingdom of God. Silence helps you to know peace and peace leads you into God."  Desiderata

Mere Guru Dev ~ Krishna Das

1. Mere Gurudev, charanon par sumana shraddha ke arpita hai
Tere hee dena hai jo hai. Wahi tujha ko samarapita hai

2. Na priti hai pratiti hai, na hi puja ki shakti hai
Meraa yaha man, meraa yaha tan, meraa kan kan samarapita hai

3. Tuma hee ho bhaava men mere, vicharon mein, pukaron mein.
Banaale yantra ab mujhko mere saravatra samarapita hai
My Gurudev I offer these flowers of my faith at your feet
Whatever I have, you have given to me, and I dedicate it all to you.

I have no love, nor do I know you.
I don't even have the strength to worship you,
But this mind of mine, this body of mine, my every atom is dedicated to you.

You are the only one in my heart and my thoughts.
You are the one who I call out to.
Now Make me your instrument…all I am I offer to you.

Through insightful lessons drawn from both Eastern meditative traditions and cognitive therapy, they demonstrate how to sidestep the mental habits that lead to despair, including rumination and self-blame, so you can face life s challenges with greater resilience.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=raBlERzb_S4

The essential meditation is Silence. All other meditations are different forms of witnessing, but witnessing is present in every kind of meditation as an essential part. Buddha has deleted everything else and kept only the essential part Vipassana – to witness. Vipassana Page

Desiderata ~ Osho
This poem by Max Ehrmann has inspired millions, expressing a simplicity and truthfulness that most of us yearn for. Because of these qualities Osho says, "It can be of immense help to you on the path." These talks on the Desiderata illuminate both the essential and the nonessential. They inspire the reader to shine his own internal light of awareness in everyday life. Hear then the wisdom of the wise: Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silenceDesiderata

Stillness Speaks ~ Eckhart Tolle

Stillness is your essential nature. What is stillness? The inner space or awareness in which the words on this page are being perceived and become thoughts. Without that awareness, there would be no perception, no thoughts, no world. When you lose touch with inner stillness, you lose touch with yourself. When you lose touch with yourself, you lose yourself in the world. Your innermost sense of self, of who you are, is inseparable from stillness. This is the I Am that is deeper than name and form.

Stillness is your essential nature. What is stillness? The inner space or awareness in which the words on this page are being perceived and become thoughts. Without that awareness, there would be no perception, no thoughts, no world. You are that awareness, disguised as a person.  www.amazon.co.uk/Stillness-Speaks-Whispers-Eckhart-Tolle/dp/0340829745

Silence
Learn silence. At least with your friends, with your lovers, with your family, with your fellow travelers here, sit
in silence sometimes. Don´t go on gossiping, don´t go on talking. Stop talking, and not only on the outside
stop the inner talk. Be in an interval. Just sit, doing nothing, just being presences to each other. And soon
you will start finding a new way to communicate. And that is the right way.

Christian Meditation
Meditation is a universal spiritual wisdom and a practice that we find at the core of all the great religious traditions, leading from the mind to the heart. It is a way of simplicity, silence and stillness. It can be practised by anyone from wherever you are on your life’s journey. It is only necessary to be clear about the practice and then to begin – and keep on beginning.

In Christianity this tradition became marginalised and even forgotten or suspect.  But in recent times a great recovery of the contemplative dimension of  Christian faith has been happening. Central to this now is the rediscovery of a practice of meditation in the Christian tradition that comes to us from the early Christian monks _ the Desert Fathers and Mothers and allows us to put into practice the teaching of Jesus on prayer in a radical and simple way.  http://www.wccm.org/content/what-meditation

The Dhammapada: The Way of the Buddha ~ Osho

I am Free ~ Oprah & Deepak
Namasté is both a spoken Indian expression and a symbolic gesture that people use when greeting each other or in parting. Pronounced “na-ma-stay,” the term derives from Sanskrit and literally means “I bow to you.” It’s more commonly translated as “the divine light in me honors the divine light in you”. Namasté is the recognition that we are all equal and share a common divinity.   www.chopra.com/ccl-meditation/mandala

Mindfulness Meditation - Thursday 2 January

Ardas Bhaee with Sat Purkh Kaur
Mantra for Letting Go: Ardas Bhaee. Letting go is part of life. Death is the only guarantee for each human, and so everyone must let someone else go.  The seasons change, lives move on, the world is not the same.  Our cultures do not stay stagnant, nor return to any golden days of yore despite political pressure. You cannot return to any value fashioned out of old...nothing will ever be the same.  Life moves forward, never back. We let go of each breath, each heart beat. We let go of each birthday, each birth. We become very accomplished at letting go, and yet, it is so easy to fight nearly to the death to hold onto things. https://www.youtube.com/watch

The Dhammapada: The Way of the Buddha ~ Osho
Drop knowledge, become a knowing awareness, alertness, watchfulness, witnessing - all verbs, remember. Forget the past and remain available to the present and don't project the future, and you will remain empty. And to remain empty is the way of the free man. The Dhammapada Vol 3, Chapter 5: Freedom contains all.
